Social Media Policy

We believe in fostering a civil social media community. We encourage all to share comments, stories, and pictures and welcome your active participation. We request that our Sandra Day O’Connor Institute core values be honored and utilized when participating: Civil, Collaborative, Fact-based, Inclusive, Non-partisan, and Objective.

Please recognize that we comply with each social media platform’s Terms and Conditions, and we request and expect you to do the same. At our sole discretion, we reserve the right to delete contributions, comments, or posts that violate these Terms and Conditions or our core values. Should we receive content that may be abusive, profane, hurtful, spam, or defamatory towards a person, entity, belief, or symbol as to the purpose of this page, that too will be deleted. If the content is inconsistent with our standards, you will be blocked from posting on our account(s).

The Institute has an important interest in assuring the accuracy and consistency of information associated with our social media sites. These terms and conditions establish guidelines for the public’s use of social media that reflect the balance of our values.

By participating in the Institute’s social media platforms (forums, discussions, blogs, etc.), public users agree they will not do the following:

  1. Post comments directly advocating violence or illegal activity.
  2. Post comments containing obscenity, which is defined as sexually explicit and/or pornographic content that is patently offensive, appeals to prurient interest, and lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value;
  3. Post comments that directly promote or advocate that we illegally discriminate based on race, age, religion, gender, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other legally protected class;
  4. Post comments containing links to malware and/or malicious content that affects the normal function of a computer system, server, or browser;
  5. Post duplicate comments within a short period of time;
  6. Post comments containing images or other content that violate someone else's intellectual property or copyright rights.

Finally, you are solely responsible for the content of your comments. However, while the Institute does not and cannot review every comment and is not responsible for the content of these messages, the Institute reserves the right to delete comments that it, in its sole discretion, deems abusive, defamatory, obscene, in violation of copyright or trademark laws, in violation of these Terms of Service, or otherwise unacceptable.
